    রিক্সার বল এর সংগ্রশালা ও রক্ষনা বেক্ষণ এর কাজ চলত বাসার একতলা লাগোয়া ছাদে। মাঝে মাঝে ছাদে বসে বলগুলি কৌটা থেকে বের করে নিবিড় মনোযোগ দিয়ে গুনতাম আর কেরোসিন তেল দিয়ে ভিজিয়ে রাখতাম। কেরোসিন তেল এর বিশেষ অপকারিতা হলো সাবান দিয়ে ধুলেও গন্ধ থেকে যায়। যথা রীতি মায়ের কাছে ধরা পরার সম্ভাবনা নিশ্চিত হয়। যখন আমরা বরিশাল ছেড়ে ঢাকা চলে আসি তখনও বল গুলি ছিল আমার কাছে ছাদের একটা বিশেষ গোপন জায়গায় সেগুলি রেখে দিয়েছিলাম। এখন অবশ‍্য গোপন জায়গার নাম বললে ক্ষতি কিছু নেই। জায়গাটা ছিল পূর্ব পাশের সানসেট এর উপরে। সেখানে কৌটা রাখাটা একটু ভয়ের ছিল। পিছলে গেলে নিচে পরে দুর্ঘটনার সম্ভাবনা ছিল। পরে আমি অনেক বার বরিশাল এ আমাদের সেই বাড়িতে গেছি কিন্তু সানসেটের ঐ জায়গাটার কথা আর মনে পড়েনি কখনো।

    বেঁচে থাকার জন্য কখনো হয়ত আমাকে কোনো নিশ্চয়তার নিশ্চিত ও পরীক্ষিত স্থান খুঁজে নিতে হবে। আমি জয়ন্তিকে খুঁজে নিয়েছিলাম পরম নিশ্চয়তায় পরম ভালবাসার। কি যেন এক অহেতুক ভাবনা আমাকে প্রবোধ দিতে শেখায় আমি আবারো জেগে উঠবো। তখনও আমার মুখের উপরে ঝুঁকে থাকবে একটা চির চেনা মায়া ভরা হাসি ভরা মুখ।
